Yachtify

A yacht handling simulator for training, and the tools an instructor needs around it.

What the simulator does

A student takes the helm of a yacht and works through exercises - holding a course, turning in a confined space, coming alongside a pier, mooring. The hull, the wind on it and the water under it are simulated, so the boat answers the helm the way a boat does rather than the way a vehicle does.

The instructor sets the conditions before the exercise begins - wind, sea state, tide, time of day - and can run the same exercise as a lesson or as an assessment.

Where it runs

In a Meta Quest headset, and on Windows with a helm console. Both run the same exercises. When a headset and a console are used together, the console leads and the headset follows it, so both show one exercise rather than two.

What gets recorded

Every attempt is recorded: the track the yacht took, the helm and throttle the student used, the wind and depth around them, and the conditions the exercise was set to. The recording plays back here, on the track page, so an attempt can be reviewed after the fact rather than remembered.
